Free online IT skills training and certification for everyone (including free learning management)

Launched in April 2007, ALISON (Advance Learning Interactive Systems Online) provides free basic and essential skills training to over 250,000 registered learners in every country and territory worldwide and is fast becoming one of the most popular global IT-skills training certifications. ALISON is a social enterprise with a mission to enable anyone, anywhere, to educate themselves for free via interactive self-paced multimedia.

They have recently announced that they have now made learner group management free for groups of learners wishing to undertake their Web-based IT-skills course ALISON ABC IT. It includes comprehensive training on the Internet, key desktop applications like Word and Excel as well as the full range of practical IT skills, including touch typing and the efficient use of Web- based e-mail. It is also prefaced by a beginner's guide to a personal computer, and so is ideal for learners who have no IT experience.

As well as providing facilities on an individual basis, ALISON also allows training managers, small businesses and teachers, the facility to monitor and manage a group of ALISON ABC IT learners online. ALISON Manager is a doorway to managing learners, roles, courses, and to generate reports, providing assessments, testing and feedback. In many cases access to this type of software can cost thousands of pounds, therefore this new service from ALISON is a highly valuable free resource.

Commenting on the launch of free ALISON Manager for ALISON ABC IT groups, ALISON CEO Mike Feerick said: "Learner groups on ALISON are quick and easy to set up and are very simple to use. Any teacher or trainer can now review how far learners have progressed, what they have got right, where they have gone wrong, how much time they've spen t learning, and whether they have progressed far enough to be awarded their Certificates of Completion." He added: "Part of ALISON's mission is to further enable teachers and trainers everywhere by providing access to better and more varied online learning tools. We hope that this exciting release will assist all those who share our mission of making available free high-quality interactive learning."

The company intends to extend this free learning management functionality to all of its online courses, including ALISON-owned content and other high-quality learning produced by third-parties such as schools, governments and private businesses.
